Peggy Zieran

Peggy started working in the book industry after having been a stay at home Mom and daycare provider
for eleven years. She re-entered the workforce in 1992, when Borders Books opened their second store
on Long Island, in Levittown, NY. She came on board as a children’s clerk and over the years took on
more responsibility by moving through the management positions, eventually becoming the General
Manager of the Syosset, NY store in 2001, where she remained until 2007. She went on to be General
Manager of AMF Syosset Lanes and then General Manager of a Starbucks store until 2012.

In 2014 Peggy and her friend and business partner, Carol, decided to open a bookstore. After a year of
research, raising money and looking for a location, she and Carol opened Turn of The Corkscrew, Books
& Wine, in Rockville Centre, New York. This bookstore and wine bar was a staple in the community,
hosting author events, book clubs, book launches, literary teas, displaying local art, and became a
meeting place for local organizations. Sadly, various factors contributed to the decline of the business,
which closed in June of 2019.

Six months later Carol and Peggy found a way to stay in the business of books and created On the Road
Book Events, a venture where they could host literary events without the expense that a bricks and
mortar store requires. They started with some smaller local events and then in early 2020 Covid forced
them to put a hold on the venture.

So here they are again, hoping to bring the joy of books and reading to the communities that they serve, with the revival of On The Road Book Events.
Happy reading!
